Corporate Veil

A legal concept that separates a business entity from that of the principals that act on behalf of it. The corporate veil protects principals from being personally liable for the company’s debts and obligations. A court can determine that a company’s business was not conducted in accordance with the provisions of law and can hold the principals personally liable for the company’s debts and obligations. This is called piercing the corporate veil.
