Delaware Trade Name/DBA Re-Registration Date Change: Now Starts February 2, 2026
As a quick update to our May 12, blog on Delaware Trade Name/DBA re-registration—please note that the State of Delaware has officially delayed the launch date for its new centralized DBA system.
New Effective Date: February 2, 2026
(Originally scheduled for June 2, 2025)
This means that the mandatory re-registration of existing DBAs will no longer be required this summer. Instead, Delaware businesses will need to refile their DBAs under the new state-level process starting in early 2026.
Here’s What Hasn’t Changed:
-
The registration process will still move from county courts to the Delaware Division of Revenue
-
Notarization will no longer be required
-
The $25 filing fee for new DBAs remains the same
-
A Trade Name Only Business License is still available for entities not operating in Delaware
What’s New or Confirmed:
-
All existing DBAs must be re-registered beginning February 2, 2026
-
Each DBA must be unique—applicants will need to check name availability before filing
-
An active Delaware business license will be required to register a DBA
-
Alternatively, businesses not operating in Delaware can apply for the special trade name license
-
-
Additional requirements may include a certificate of good standing and a registered agent
